Btw i don t care who you are what i said is fact provided that in the verticle scratches they are less than the surface of the cylinder wall and not raised up into the cylinder inside diameter at all.
Owner says a piece of the ceramic around the electrode of the 3 plug broke off and caused it.

Meaning the scratch is not raised.
He changed out the plug and has been driving it for the last year like that.

I bet if you take it to the machine shop they ll tell you to properly fix it they will have to bore all 8 cylinders turn the crank hot tank new cam bearings and before you know it they ll have the tab up to a 1000 bucks.
Bolt it back up and call it good.

Or should i just do a light ball hone and install the piston anyway.

Cylinder wall scratch these motors arent delicate little flowers.
It is a fairly deep scratch easily catch a fingernail on it.
If the motors out of the car just run a hone through it.
If i can hone it out can the rings be adjusted to fill in the couple thousandths that are honed out.
Just throw a whole new set on.

If they don t end up being good well then atleast you can weigh the costs of having a machine shop rebuild it or possibly find a used short long block in good condition.
It s a decent scratch or maybe even considered a light gouge.
