How to disengage garage door spring.
Garage door springs are used to reduce the weight of the garage door by pulling the door in the direction of the motor.
Disengage the garage door from the motor or in other words put the door into manual mode.
This will disconnect the opener from the door and allow you to open it manually.
Close the garage door and pull the emergency release.
This is true even if you have a garage door opener.
If your garage door slips down below the header after you have opened it you garage door springs need to be adjusted.
You will feel it disengage as well as visually see the small spring on the lever open up.
You can now open and close your door manually.
Lift the door manually to about waist height bring it to a stop and let go of it.
Torsion springs are mounted directly above the door and need to be wound with special tools.
Then clamp as described above.
Use the emergencyrelease rope to disconnect the opener from the door and push the door up as faras you can without damaging the opener.
Pull cord down and back towards motor with a small amount of force.
